What EPA Section 609 Requires
• Technicians who service or repair motor vehicle air-conditioning systems must be properly trained and certified under an EPA-approved Section 609 program.
• Certified technicians must use approved refrigerant-handling and recovery equipment when servicing MVAC systems.
• Refrigerant must be recovered and handled properly. It should not be intentionally released into the atmosphere.
• Refrigerant containers and service equipment must be identified and handled according to applicable requirements.
• Proper service practices help protect the environment and reduce refrigerant emissions.
